Maximizing Profits Immediately
Publication Date: TBD
Preface
The strategies and techniques described in the following pages can be implemented by a top executive of a small or midsize manufacturing company without consultants, with the help only of the company’s chief financial person. They will immediately maximize your profits and dramatically improve your company’s bottom line.
Regardless of a company’s size, by following the methods described in this text, companies should be able to realize an across-the-board savings of at least 5 percent after the first 30 days, and at least 10 percent within the first year. And as will be demonstrated in the first chapter, a 5 percent reduction in costs can increase profits by 200 percent if the savings can be preserved.
In the context of maximizing profits, we have set out to accomplish four other goals in the following pages:
- To show that in this economy, understanding and implementing a few foundational profit improvement techniques can mean the difference between red ink and black.
- To lay out these techniques in a way every executive, at any size business, can understand.
- To demonstrate that these techniques are the building blocks of modern management theory, of comprehensive programs like Six Sigma, Total Quality Improvement, and Lean Manufacturing, to name just a few. We believe that without understanding the principles laid out in this book, these other programs have the wrong starting point, and their success will be problematic.
- To demonstrate that U.S. companies can compete in our global economy.
This is not a book that will explain Six Sigma, TQM (total quality management), and the like in great detail. Instead, it will lay out certain principles and techniques that form the foundation of these modern management theories and that we believe must be understood before any of them can be implemented successfully.
Often we will be talking directly to top executives, because in order to maximize profits we believe our strategies must be understood, supported, and driven by a company’s top operations officer. Ultimately, however, Maximizing Profits Immediately: How to Dramatically Improve Your Company’s Bottom Line is aimed at all company personnel responsible for profit improvement efforts – which includes every salaried employee.
